Details in Garmin agenda

Hi Workout Writer team, I really like the way Workout Writer can send structured workouts directly to Garmin Connect. One thing I’d love to see improved is how scheduled workouts appear in the Garmin Connect calendar. At the moment, Garmin Connect only shows the workout title, while the actual workout structure isn’t visible in the calendar. This makes it difficult to quickly see what a planned session contains without opening Workout Writer or checking it on the watch. Would it be possible to add an option to automatically include a short summary of the workout in the title or another Garmin-visible field? For example, instead of: Threshold workout it could optionally appear as: Threshold – 15’ easy + 6×3’ / 90” + 10’ easy Even if Garmin doesn’t allow third-party workout step details to be displayed directly in the calendar, an automatically generated compact summary would make the Garmin calendar much more useful. Ideally, users could choose between: Workout name only Workout name + compact workout summary A customizable title format I think this would be a great quality-of-life improvement for Garmin users who use the Connect calendar as their main training overview. Thanks for considering it!

Hi, Thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback! I’m always eager to improve Workout Writer as much as possible, so I’m genuinely grateful when someone takes the time to suggest a useful improvement like this. Firstly, as a Garmin user myself, I would love for Garmin to actually show a preview of the workout in Garmin Connect online, and in the iOS app too. They specify the format of the workout, and they have all the data available to them, so there's no reason why they shouldn't show a full preview of the workout in the app/website. They did actually start showing it in the app briefly a few months ago, but then "fixed" it. I've reported it as a feature request with them, and hope they'll address it at some point. But, given the current state, we have to get a little creative, and your suggestion works beautifully. So, I’ve now added a new Garmin workout summary setting in Workout Writer. You’ll be able to choose between: - Adding the summary to the Garmin workout description - Adding it directly to the workout title - Leaving the workout name unchanged You can also choose how much detail the summary includes: step names, target values such as pace or heart-rate zones, or a very compact format. For example (with "compact" selected): Threshold – 15' + 6x3'/90" + 10' Workout subtitles will also be included in the Garmin description when present, so if you make the first line of your workout text into a comment using the # symbol, then it will also appear in the workout description in Garmin. This will be included in the next release of Workout Writer. Thanks again for the excellent suggestion! Screenshots: 1. The new option in Garmin Settings in the app. 2. Thank you — this is exactly what I had in mind. The option to include a compact workout summary directly in the Garmin workout title is especially useful. For me, the main issue was that when looking at the Garmin calendar. I also really like that you’ve made the amount of detail configurable rather than choosing one fixed format. That makes the feature useful for both simple and more complex workouts. Including the first # comment/subtitle in the Garmin description is a nice addition as well. Thanks for taking the suggestion seriously and implementing it so quickly. I’m looking forward to testing it in the next release. Kind regards, Dimitri
